how are we to live
is the debut EP by Jenna Eun as a singer-songwriter. Living through 2020 when the whole world stopped, she uniquely and honestly captured stories about the lives and anxiety of modern society through this album.
Although the songwriting of the four tracks began with various topics such as social media, smartphones, relationships, and parties, in common, they all ultimately pose these questions like “what are these technology and pleasure for?” and “is it right to live like this?” Thus, the title of this album also became a question, “how are we to live”, which is the same title of a book by Peter Singer, one of the most influential modern philosophers. These songs, which aim to reveal the dark side of 21C people, are also in line with Peter Singer's argument that points out our ethical hypocrisy and asks us to think about the ultimate question and act. So, she asks the listeners who are lost in pleasure and seek to be saved by "likes": "how are we to live?"
Also, this album is a part of a larger project with an online exhibition at www.howarewetolive.com, supported by the Yeonsu Foundation for Arts & Culture. On this website, five pages designed by Jenna Eun provide interactive online experiences related to the concepts of each of the five songs including "The Age of Electronic God", released exclusively for the exhibition.
